Directors who work with Riley are offered a truly collaborative and supportive experience. Her artistic process is built on trust and relationship building – she sees her function as that of a film doula, engaging a lifetime of diverse life experience to execute the vision of the Director through a collaborative, holistic process. She firmly believes that who is behind the lens matters – in the stories that get told and the ways in which they are shared. As a queer woman of transgender experience, Riley’s work is deeply empathetic and person-focused, always attempting to build empathy between the characters on screen and those watching. Personal projects celebrate stories of queerness, gender diversity, ecoconnection, and imagining (im)possible futures. The centrality of identity is alive in all Riley’s work – she hires Black, indigenous, person of color (BIPOC), queer, and gender-diverse crew whenever possible, and seeks to work on stories by diverse creators.
Recent work includes the surreal drama feature Woman in the Closet, directed by Craig Webster, produced by Amenya Makuku, and the transgender focused rom-com feature film Something You Should Know About Me directed by Andy Fidoten.
